Cary Liao is a photographer and web designer based in New Jersey, specializing in concert and aviation photography. Cary's work was first featured in a national publication when he was 19, and his photos have since been included in prominent magazines such as National Geographic Adventure, Alternative Press, and Aviation Week & Space Technology.
Having developed a fascination with airplanes at an early age, Cary naturally became involved in commercial aviation photography using a Nikon N6006 SLR camera and Kodachrome 64 slide film. After many trips to area airports and attending several airline press events, he became a regular photographer for Airline Pilot Careers Magazine and upgraded to a Nikon F5 SLR, purchased new lenses, and switched to Fuji Velvia 50 and Provia 100F slide film.
Aviation photography became considerably more of a challenge following 9/11, and Cary turned his focus to other subject matter and also entered the Digital SLR era with the purchase of the Nikon D70. A year later, Cary changed to the Canon line of products. He started photographing concerts, aided by contacts from his clothing company, Verona Clothing, and through his web design for the bands Hidden in Plain View and Punchline.
In the summer of 2005, Cary learned about Atlantic Puffins and lighthouses while researching photographic opportunities for an upcoming trip to Maine. He has grown fond of both subject matters, and makes an annual pilgrimage to Maine to photograph these new interests.
